Subtitle: Imagination taking power

Come Join Us For ‘Pop Up Tomorrow’ in Copenhagen!

At the end of September I will be in Copenhagen for what promises to be an amazing event. Well, two events actually. On the afternoon of Friday 26th September, I will be on a panel with Kate Raworth, Phoebe Tickell and Jacob Rask as part of the Grasp Festival. The publicity states: “Kate Raworth will set our course with a compelling vision of a future worth aiming for. Rob Hopkins will crank our cynicism suspenders and help us fall in love with the future. Jacob Rask will take us on a journey through time to unearth the seeds of a flourishing future in the places of the past. And Phoebe Tickell will boost our moral imaginations, and steer the panel safely back to the present”. You’ll need to buy a ticket here.

Then, over the weekend of September 27th and 28th, in City Hall in the centre of Copenhagen, we will be making Danish history. For the first time in the history of that remarkable city, we will be opening a time portal for the people of the city to travel in. We will be tearing the fabric of time, and you’re invited to join us. There is an evolving website where you’ll be able to book for the different sessions.

Saturday daytime will feature Ruth Ben Tovim’s extraordinary ‘Town Anywhere’ activity, where we will take you on a journey to 2035, the 2035 that turned out the best it possibly could and then we will build that world with cardboard, sticks, string and tape and then inhabit it. If you’ve never taken this incredible oppotunity to rehearse the future at scale, then now is your moment. And after the activity it will be turned into an archaeological site of the future for people to come and experience. It’ll be amazing.

Here is a short video of when Ruth and I co-facilitated it recently in Bristol. It is an unmissable experience:

On Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7pm, Mr Kit and myself will be bringing our amazing ‘Field Recordings from the Future’ time machine. Joined by Alfie Weedon on double bass, we will be transporting you to the world of 2035 in all its glory. Expect beavers! Underground mushroom production! Bicycle rush hours! Regenerative agriculture! Car-free neighbourhoods!

Bring cushions, a beanbag, and be prepared for a temporal adventure. Booking is advised for these shows – if you want to book for the Saturday Field Recordings show, book here. For the Sunday show book here.

Then on Sunday there will be an ‘Imagination Activist’ training with Phoebe Tickell in the morning, a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the tools and practices Phoebe has collected for hugely boosting the imagination capacity of any organisation you’re part of.

In the afternoon, Kate Raworth (below), creator of Doughnut Economics and Jacob Rask from Bloxhub will host ‘The Copenhagen Doughnut Economics Circus’ on the theme of ‘Battle for the Biosphere: Nature vs. Finance – Who wants to be a million years?!” Expect a fun and participatory workshop where they teach the fundamentals of Doughnut Economics as circusmasters. Expect juggling! Contortionists! Clowns! And a very real insight into the economy of the 21st century! They will be running it twice. Don’t miss it.This is going to be such a magical and historic occasion, and hosted right in the centre of power in the city, just 2 months before city elections take place. See you there!
